First Wave Enjoy Strong Start to Fall
This past Wednesday night First Wave advanced to the BSSL League Cup semi Final with a 7-0 win against Holliston. The game was not as lopsided as the scoreline appears. Holliston were lively and played hard to the end. First Wave was clinical in front of net and dangerous on the break when Holliston tried to get back into the game.
On Saturday, First Wave traveled to Dilboy Stadium to play Blackbeard. Two goals from Khano and goals from Nick and Alo secured a 4-1 win and three points. It was a well played game by both sides. The difference being First Wave's lethal counter attack.
First Wave host Middlesex this coming Saturday as they look to move their way up the BSSL table.

First Wave Split Last Two Games of the Spring
First Wave continued their Jekyll and Hyde impersonation over the last two weeks of the spring. A convincing 3-1 victory against MPS was followed up by a comprehensive 4-0 dismantling by a rampant Battery Park side a week later.
First Wave remains alive in the BSSL Cup but their chances of securing a league championship were snuffed out by the loss to Battery Park. Hopefully a summer to regroup will see the side recharged for a strong second half of the season.

First Wave score late in 3-1 Win
Braintree, MA: First Wave won an entertaining match against a strong Playwright side 3-1 on Saturday at Thayer Academy in Braintree. It should be an exciting BSSL season as Playwright were a much improved side from last year, which adds another strong team.
The first half was a back and forth affair with both sides creating legitimate scoring opportunities. It was 0-0 at halftime with not much between the two teams.
At halftime First Wave made a few tactical adjustments, reverting to a conventional 4-4-2. This meant First Wave would be sacrificing their territorial advantage for the chance to catch Playwright on the break. Halfway through the second half Thomas Halpenny scored his first of two goals from a slide rule Matt Lemire pass. It was classic counter attack football. Playwright were resilient and pressed for an equalizer, which they ultimately got care of a powerful header from a corner kick.
First Wave stayed composed and continued to try and play. Their tactics eventually paid off with another Thomas goal and a late Matt Lemire strike for a 3-1 final scoreline. It was a well played game by both teams.

First Wave Draw Season Opener 2-2
Acton, MA--First Wave drew their season opener on Saturday night against Eagles, last season's Division II Champions. It was a lively game for the first game of the season. Eagles will certainly be a welcome addition to Division I.
First Wave had several outstanding chances to score throughout the first half. A combination of outstanding goalkeeping and less than outstanding finishing saw a relatively even half close at 0-0.
Eagles opened the scoring early in the second half to go up 1-0. First Wave responded well, scoring two in succession, courtesy of Jon Bavota and Matt Lemire. All credit to Eagles and their response. They pushed for an equalizer, which they got, and then tried to go for a winner.
Overall, 2-2 seemed to be just about right on the night. Both teams should enjoy successful 2013 campaigns.

First Wave Continue Winning Ways in 6-1 Victory
Lancaster, MA: First Wave continued their strong start to the second half of the season with a 6-1 win against Cambridge Arsenal. Saturday's game highlighted all of First Wave's best qualities. Slick interplay, quick counter attacking, and a commitment to attacking play.
Nick and Chris once again proved to be a handful up front. However, it was First Wave's freewheeling right back Thomas Halpenny that opened up the scoring within the first five minutes.
First Wave dominated for long stretches of the first half. They left the field at halftime with a 3-0 lead. The second half found First Wave playing with ten men from the start as one of their eleven players had a prior commitment. First Wave Draw 1-1 with MIT
Cambridge, MA: First Wave produced a strong team performance to earn a 1-1 tie with MIT this past Saturday in Cambridge.
Forced to start with 9 players, First Wave actually scored first, care of another wonderful Nick F goal. Shortly afterward, Matt L showed up giving First Wave ten for the remainder of the game.
It has been a frustrating season for one of the BSSL's top sides, but Saturday's performance was refreshing. Even with ten players, First Wave enjoyed long spells of possession and the overall team work rate was top notch.
Over the remaining weeks of the spring, First Wave will look to advance in the BSSL Cup and string together a few results to get back in contention for a top three finish. First Wave's Start Stop Season Continues
Marlborough, MA: First Wave's frustrating start to the 2012 BSSL campaign continued Saturday morning against Blackbeard. After last weekend's 6-0 demolition of Cambridge Arsenal it looked like First Wave's season was about to get started.
Unfortunately, a lethargic performance cost them three more points against a solid team that they dominated possession wise for most of the ninety minutes.
Credit to Blackbeard, as they knew their chances would be few and far between. They sat in and defended as a team, frustrating a disjointed First Wave side. The scoreline read 1-1 at halftime.
The second half saw First Wave pressing for a winner. It was a disheartening experience, especially watching Blackbeard score on their only real shot attempt of the half late in the game.
First Wave will look to regroup this Saturday against MIT.

First Wave 6 Middlesex 1
Lancaster, MA: An unfortunate Middlesex SC side felt the backlash from First Wave's loss last weekend. Saturday morning's 6-1 demolition was just what the doctor ordered after a disappointing performance in the season opener.

It didn't take long to see they compliment each other well, as Nick laid off an unselfish pass for Chris to open the scoring at 1-0 early in the first half. First Wave Drop Season Opener
Lancaster, MA: Defending BSSL Champions Battery Park Gunners defeated First Wave 4-1 Saturday morning in Lancaster. First Wave started strong, retaining possession for long periods of time through the opening twenty minutes. Unfortunately, a give away in the back was pounced on by Battery Park, as they punished First Wave's mistake for 1-0. The goal took the wind out of First Wave's sails and before they could recover it was 2-0 care of more slack defending.
First Wave made some changes at halftime, but they were quickly negated, as a Battery Park attacker beat a First Wave defender before playing a ball across for 3-0 in the 50th minute.
From there, First Wave lost the plot for a bit but managed to regroup, with Nick F scoring a nice goal for 3-1 in the 80th minute.
Another poor decision from a First Wave defender led to an eventual Battery Park PK. Former First Wave Striker Bobby dispatched the PK to wrap up a hat trick against his former side.
First Wave will look to regroup for their match next week against Middlesex.

First Wave Dismantled 5-1 by Rampant MPS
Wayland, MA--First Wave's hopes of securing a second consecutive BSSL title were put to rest Saturday afternoon by MPS.
MPS opened up a 1-0 lead twenty minutes into the first half. After that goal First Wave settled down and played some good football through the remaining twenty five minutes. Overall, it was a pretty even first half of play.
The second half saw the wheels come off for First Wave. A clearly superior MPS side pounced on several First Wave mistakes. The second goal was especially poor from a First Wave perspective and clearly shattered the little bit of momentum they were attempting to built.
A goal from Bobby provided a lifeline that MPS quickly snuffed out. The last twenty minutes of the match were all MPS as First Wave exited the title race with a whimper.

First Wave's Khano Smith Named Captain for Bermuda's World Cup Qualifier against T&T
Bermuda skipper Khano Smith was thrilled with his side’s performance against Trinidad and wants it to be a stepping-stone for the rest of their World Cup campaign.
He believed Bermuda were unfortunate not come away a point against a Trinidad team packed with professional experience.
He was particularly impressed with Bermuda’s defending for managing to frustrate the hosts for long periods.
“The team played very well, obviously Trinidad have more experienced players in the international arena than us, but I couldn’t be more proud to captain a side,” said the 30-year-old.
“The guys showed the right attitude and mind-frame to be competitive.
“We played well, covered well for each other, and overall played for each other. It was a good performance and we can look to get a result in the next match.
“They couldn’t break us down and resorted to the long ball and playing Kenwyne Jones in over the top because our shape was good. They tried that the last time we played them, but this time they managed to nick a goal after we lost concentration just before the half.
“Going into the second half we didn’t know what to expect because we were using different tactics to try and get the second goal, but we stuck to our guns and in the end it’s okay to go into the next match off the back of this, although it’s a loss.”
The side assembled by head coach Devarr Boyles yesterday was one of the youngest Smith has played in, with the former New England Revolution man pleasantly surprised with how well the newcomers acquitted themselves. “We have a talented group so we will only get better as we go on,” he said. “When you look at this side we have 17-year-olds as well as experienced international players.
“We are all familiar with Trinidad, especially me, but this time around we had a bunch of younger new guys in the side as well as a few guys that were here a few years back, so we knew what to expect from them and we made it difficult for them again.”
“I started cramping up with about 20 minutes to go, so for precautionary measures I played in defence so I didn’t have to do that much running in the final moments,” Smith said.
Smith has urged his team-mates to build on yesterday’s encouraging performance and claim all three points when they take on Guyana in their second Group B qualifier on Tuesday.
“Playing the favourites (Trinidad) on the road in the first game is good because it’s the hardest game.
“Unfortunately we couldn’t get the right result, but we can move on from and hopefully get the job done against Guyana.”

First Wave and Battery Park Battle to 0-0 Draw
Roxbury, MA-Two of the top teams in the BSSL battled through their makeup game from Round 1 of the season. First Wave and Battery Park both entered last Saturday's fixture undefeated through the opening eight weeks of matches.
It was a closely contested contest with Battery Park probably edging it in the possession department, while First Wave created a few more clear cut scoring opportunities. In these types of top of table clashes it often times becomes a midfield battle. Last Saturday was one of those games.
Both goalkeepers made strong saves to preserve the 0-0 scoreline and on balance, a 0-0 draw was just about right.
That result keeps First Wave top of the table going into the summer break with MPS and Battery Park Gunners right on their heels. It should be an interesting second half of the season.

Long Drive for 4-1 Win
Cohasset, MA-First Wave will be chartering a helicopter the next time an away match against Playwright shows up on the schedule. Cohasset Sportsplex is a fine venue to play but unless you live in Cohasset, it's a drive.
First Wave made the best of the trip, outplaying Playwright and securing three points from their 4-1 victory. The hosts held firm through the opening twenty minutes as they waited for their 11th, 12th, and 13th players to arrive.
Charlie Fuentes, who enjoyed a fine match, scored First Wave's first goal after some intricate interplay with Khano Smith. Shortly afterward, Jeff Lavigne was fouled in the box. Khano scored the ensuing PK for 2-0 at halftime.
First Wave bossed the second half, dominating possession and creating many scoring opportunities. Nick Morris scored his first goal of the spring and Khano scored a second. Playwright scored a late conciliation goal for the final 4-1 scoreline.

First Wave Escape with 2-1 Victory
Cambridge, MA-First Wave escaped with a 2-1 victory over MIT Saturday morning in Cambridge, in what would prove to be their poorest performance of the season. All the warning signs were there in advance, players arriving late, players without their gear, and at halftime a player who didn't know the correct score. Everyone seemed a bit too comfortable, which could lead to major changes in the starting XI and playing time distribution.
Matt Lemire was a lone bright spot for First Wave as he continued his impressive goal scoring form. His 20th minute goal secured First Wave a 1-0 advantage. Late in the half a poor piece of defending from a First Wave center back allowed MIT a break away, which they converted for 1-1 at halftime. The second half was tedious, as First Wave were poor and MIT were worse. Jeff Lavigne managed to score late to secure three points, but there was little to celebrate after such a disappointing performance.

First Wave Defeat Blackbeard 4-1
Marlborough, MA: First Wave outlasted a strong Blackbeard side 4-1 Saturday at ForeKicks in Marlborough thanks in large part to a Matt L hat trick. An early kickoff was greeted with superb playing conditions.
Blackbeard were organized and ready to play from the start. With each team set out in a 3-5-2, it took awhile for the game to settle, as there was little time or space available. Eventually, First Wave drew first blood courtesy of a lethal counter attack. Fans of First Wave won't need too many guesses to figure out who broke the ice, as Nick F clinically dispatched an astute ball behind the Blackbeard defense.
Before the half was finished, Nick's partner in crime, Matt L, scored two of his three goals to give First Wave a 3-0 advantage at halftime.
Team: GK Peter, John C, Mike M, Charlie F, Eric D, Sean C, Miles A, Matt L, Nick M, The Hulk, Nick F

First Wave Advance to Third Round of BSSL Cup
5.21.2011:Wayland, MA--First Wave advanced to the Third Round of the BSSL Cup with a come from behind 3-1 victory against Cup holders MPS. It was a battle of two halves. MPS controlled the first half, earning a PK twenty minutes in to secure their 1-0 halftime advantage.
During the break First Wave made a few tactical adjustments that proved to be beneficial. Wide players Khano and Matt L forced themselves onto the game and opened up the field for everyone else. In the 50th minute Nick F scored the equalizer and a distinct shift in the game ensued. Not long after, the Incredible Hulk pounced on a small opening for 2-1. It was only a matter of time before the third goal arrived, courtesy of a well taken Matt L header, which produced the final 3-1 scoreline.

First Wave 7 Cambridge Arsenal 0
5.14.2011: Framingham, MA--Not much to report from Saturday's encounter with Cambridge Arsenal. The scoreline is a bit deceiving, as a 2-0 halftime advantage was quickly 4-0 very early in the second half.
Cambridge Arsenal didn't have a lot of fight after First Wave opened the second half with a quick decisive goal. First Wave managed to score five second half goals, but truth be told, for the third game in a row, their finishing was careless. The lack of a true ruthless streak is beneficial in real life, but not in futbol. Clearly the team has higher expectations for itself.
First Wave faces MPS next Saturday at Wayland HS in a BSSL Cup match.

First Wave Ride Their Luck Escape with 1-0 Victory
5.7.2011 Lancaster, MA-First Wave escaped with a 1-0 victory over Kendall Wanderers B Saturday morning at Progin Park. The 8:00 am start time didn't stop First Wave from arriving early, as they fielded a strong starting XI.
However, it didn't take long to realize it might be one of those games. First Wave was awarded a penalty in the first fifteen minutes. Unfortunately, the ensuing opportunity was saved . That could have potentially opened up the flood gates as First Wave was dominating possession. The half ended 0-0.
The second half found First Wave completely dominating possession. Kendall held strong. With five minutes left Nick F finished off an excellent First Wave move securing three points for his side.

First Wave Escape with OT Cup Win
4.30.2011:Framingham, MA-First Wave advanced to the second round of the BSSL Cup with a 3-2 overtime victory against Cambridge Arsenal at Framingham State College.
Afternoon kickoffs are always tough and Saturday was no different. First Wave opened flat, a fact that was covered by an early goal from Nick F. The early goal did little to calm the nerves of the manager who clearly sensed and witnessed a lethargic performance. First Wave ended the half ahead 1-0 without really troubling Cambridge.
It was more of the same in the second half. Careless finishing, slack defending, and no urgency kept Cambridge in the game. In one ten minute spell Cambridge converted two goals, the second, diabolical defending combined with poor goaltending. It was 2-1 Cambridge Arsenal with fifteen minutes left in regulation.
First Wave reached for their reserve tanks and managed to equalize care of a Khano drive from outside of the box. His goal forced Golden Goal OT at the end of regulation.
In OT, First Wave held strong and scored seven minutes into the second overtime period. Nick scored the game winner with an impressive drive from the top of box. The victory propels First Wave to the second round of the Cup versus MPS, who won in their game.

First Wave 4 MPS 2
April 23, 2011-Lancaster, MA-First Wave won an exciting match between two of the BSSL's top teams Saturday at Progin Park. It was a wide open affair between two teams committed to playing attacking soccer.
Nick F opened up the scoring for First Wave care of a Route 1 ball from Charlie. The MPS defense was caught flat allowing Nick to get behind. He calmly chipped the onrushing MPS goalkeeper for 1-0. MPS started to assert themselves later in the half. A careless First Wave turnover provided MPS a chance to equalize, which they did with a classy piece of finishing. The half ended 1-1.
The second half was a roller coaster ride. Both teams scored excellent goals and both keepers made several outstanding saves. Tony D scored for First Wave for 2-1 before a textbook MPS freekick made it 2-2. Bobby provided the game winner for First Wave with a highlight reel bicycle kick for 3-2 before Nick scored his second for the final 4-2 scoreline. There were many outstanding individual performances from both teams throughout.
Saturday's result helps solidify First Wave's standing as one of the teams to beat in 2011.

First Wave 4 Kendall Wanderers 0
Lancaster, MA--A chilly November morning....oh, it's April. A chilly April morning greeted First Wave as they looked to build on a successful start to their 2011 campaign. Kendall Wanderers made the trek out to Progin Park in search of their second win of the season.
Kendall proved to be a stronger side than last week's opponent Groton House. First Wave opened up in a 3-5-2 and dominated possession through the opening fifteen minutes. Kendall were resolute in their defending and managed to cause problems on the break. Ironically, First Wave scored their opener via one of Mike M's chronically misplaced crosses somehow finding the back of the net. The Kendall goalkeeper, who enjoyed a fine performance throughout, was distracted by a Chris M "dummy" run (inside joke). It took a superb penalty save from Peter Kersker to keep the scoreline at 1-0 going into halftime.
The second half was all First Wave. A three goal, fifteen minute onslaught followed the second half opening whistle and the game was over. Two Tim W's goals sandwiched a stunning Nick F free kick (pictured left). To their credit Kendall continued to push. With a few more players, they are a side that looks likely to improve through the course of the season.

First Wave Open 2011 Campaign in Style
Lancaster, MA-A glorious morning greeted both teams this Saturday for their 9:45 am kickoff at Progin Park. A cruel New England winter had its last laugh the previous Saturday as a snow covered pitch forced First Wave to reschedule their season opener against Boyne Gunners.
First Wave picked up where they left off last fall, as they continued their free scoring ways. Set out in an attack minded 4-3-3, it didn't take Groton House long to realize it might be a long day at the office. Last season's Golden Boot winner, Nick F, opened his 2011 account within ten minutes. Shortly afterward, Charlie F unleashed a fierce 30 yard drive for 2-0 before Khano S dispatched a First Wave PK for 3-0 at halftime.
First Wave continued to press forward in the second half. Two goals from Bobby and a second from Khano provided the final 6-0 scoreline:
Team: (4-3-3): GK Peter, John, Glen, Jeff, Charlie, Tony, Miles, Mike, Khano, Nick, Bobby Subs: Sean, Luke

First Wave Down Carico 3-1
Boston, MA--First Wave collected three more points this afternoon at Madison Park High School. Their 3-1 victory over Carico keeps them top of the table. The final scoreline is deceptive as First Wave could have scored ten goals, while Dan Hansen in goal made several world class saves to keep Carico at bay. A 9-4 final would have been a more accurate reflection of this wide open affair.
First Wave dominated the opening stanza for long periods. Chris Morris opened up the scoring for First Wave. He has an uncanny ability to do nothing for most of the game but still score. His goal provided the 1-0 halftime scoreline.
Justin Geibel scored early in the second half, converting one of the seven point blank chances he had throughout. It looked like the flood gates might open. Unfortunately, Carico converted for 2-1 and it wasn't until Nick F scored for 3-1 that First Wave felt comfortable enough to start looking forward to next week's match with MIT.
With two weeks remaining in the season, First Wave needs to finish strong to give themselves a chance to be there at the end.
Team: (4-4-2): GK Dan, Thomas, Sean H, Gregg, John, Nick M, Miles, Matt, Jeff, Bobby, Justin

First Wave Back to Winning Ways with 2-0 Victory
Dorchester, MA--First Wave managed to earn all three points against an inspired Kendall Wanderers B team Saturday afternoon at Ceylon Park. Both teams were greeted with glorious weather conditions following a week of rain.
First Wave started brightly, dominating possession for long stretches. Kendall's goalkeeper was in fine form, managing to keep First Wave at bay while giving his teammates the confidence they needed to push on. First Wave's 3-5-2 alignment made them vulnerable on the break, but dangerous in attack. The score remained 0-0 through the opening forty-five minutes.
First Wave converted to a 4-4-2 for the second half and looked a more balanced side. A combination of diabolical finishing and superb goalkeeping left First Wave staring at a 0-0 draw late into the match.
A moment of individual brilliance from Matty Lemire managed to secure all three points for First Wave. Collecting the ball outside the penalty box on the right, Matty forced his way through Kendall's defense before unleashing a piledriver to the far post. Matt also played a part in First Wave's second goal. With Kendall pressing for an equalizer Matt broke out eventually forcing a penalty kick opportunity for First Wave. It was expertly converted by Thomas Halpenny in the 90th minute for 2-0 First Wave.
The result helps ease the sting from last Saturday's 3-2 loss against an excellent MPS side.

First Wave Remain Top of the Table with 3-1 Victory
Lancaster, MA--An exciting 3-1 victory against Kendall Wanderers A on Saturday morning kept First Wave top of the table with the league's dominant side Mass Premier Soccer. It was another excellent all around performance from an up and coming side. Early in the first half a well worked bit of combination play sprung Chris down the right--his pinpoint cross emphatically headed home by Matias for 1-0. Unfortunately, First Wave relinquished their advantage shortly after, leading to the eventual 1-1 scoreline at halftime.
The second half was controlled by First Wave. Their persistent efforts lead to an eventual 2-1 lead care of another fine header from Chris Morris. Jeff Lavigne closed out the scoring for First Wave, slotting home from close range after some fine work from Matt Lemire. It was an important three points for First Wave as they look to build on a successful spring.
Next Saturday's match against Mass Premier Soccer will be the true measuring stick of First Wave's progress. They host the league's defending champions in a 9:00 am kickoff at Progin Park.

First Wave Remain Top of the Table with 5-2 Win

Lancaster, MA--First Wave rode a strong second half performance to a 5-2 victory Saturday morning. Cellar dwelling Middlesex arrived at Progin Park looking to get their 2010 campaign going to avoid possible relegation. After forty five minutes it looked like they might get the type of result that can turn a season around.
First Wave started strong with Charlie Fuentes converting after beating a poorly timed Middlesex offside trap. Bearing in from the left, Charlie clinically dispatched his finish for a 1-0 First Wave lead. After that the wheels almost came off. A towering Middlesex clearance found it's way into the the First Wave penalty box and unceremoniously bounced over everyone into the goal for 1-1. Shortly after, Middlesex caught First Wave holding too high a line in the back, one long ball over the top releasing their striker for a breakaway and eventual 2-1 lead.
At halftime First Wave regrouped and converted to a 3-5-2 alignment. It didn't take long for Middlesex to feel the effects. Newcomer Tim Winn converted a Markens' cross for 2-2 and you could feel the flood gates starting to unhinge. Thomas, John, and Chris M rounded out the scoring, with a world class header from Chris (pictured) the pick of the bunch.
The victory keeps First Wave top of the table on goal differential heading into an important clash this coming Saturday against Kendall A.

First Wave Open Second Half of Season with Win
Roxbury, MA--First Wave managed to secure all three points this afternoon against table topping Boyne Gunners with a 1-0 victory. The 1:00 pm kickoff at Madison Park HS was the opening round of the second half of the BSSL season.
Boyne Gunners entered the match top of the BSSL Division I standings. A busy off season saw them enjoy a successful run in the New England Championship competition this summer. First Wave entered the match one point off the pace while looking forward to building on a successful spring season.
Miles Alden-Dunn provided the only goal of the match in the 25th minute with a well taken volley to the far post. That goal provided the only difference between two evenly matched sides at halftime. The second half found Boyne pressing for an equalizer. They did manage to unsettle the First Wave back four while also opening themselves up to being caught on the break. Both teams created opportunities in the second half with Boyne probably enjoying the balance of play.
In the end, it was a good result for First Wave against a side that will be very hard to beat throughout the remainder of the season.

First Wave Finishes First Half of the Season in Style
Lancaster, MA--First Wave beat Playwright 2-0 yesterday at Progin Park in Lancaster. The win keeps First Wave at the top of the table, with several teams still having games to make up before the end of the first half of the season. A bird in hand is better than two in the bush, as First Wave will gladly settle for the five wins they have already accumulated.
Yesterday's match found First Wave in control for long periods of time. With few injuries and relatively consistent turnout, First Wave has settled into a comfortable style of play. Charlie Fuentes provided an excellent cross for Matt Lemire to finish with a well taken header halfway through the opening stanza.
First Wave created several solid scoring opportunities in the second half before Thomas Halpenny slotted an accurate and timely pass for Matt to secure his brace. The back four was solid throughout and Peter Kersker again looked the part in goal securing the shut out.
First Wave may have one or two Cup games remaining before officially closing out their first half of the season.

First Wave Leave MIT with 2-1 Victory
Cambridge, MA--First Wave managed to secure three important points against MIT yesterday in Cambridge. Good teams collect points even when they don't play well--which would be a fair assessment of First Wave's less than stellar performance. It was, however, clearly a positive sign for an ever improving team.
First Wave dominated the battle for possession in the first half. Unfortunately, the possession did not lead to many clear cut scoring chances. The scoreline at halftime stood 0-0.
In the second half First Wave switched to a 3-5-2. The change proved to be beneficial, as Nick F converted two chances to propel First Wave into a 2-0 lead. MIT continued to battle. A First Wave mistake gave MIT the chance they were looking for to get back in the game at 2-1. Thankfully, stand in GK Eric Driscoll was outstanding between the pipes and managed to close out a solid performance.
Yesterday's victory moves First Wave towards the top of a crowded Division I table. They close out the first half of the season next Saturday against Playwright.

First Wave Battle the Heat and Carico--Beat Both
Dorchester, MA--First Wave defeated league leading Carico yesterday afternoon at Ceylon Park in Dorchester. A noon time kickoff ensured both teams would have to battle the hottest part of an extremely warm day. First Wave started well, creating several chances, while holding a strong Carico side at bay for long stretches of time. Late in the half Carico broke up a First Wave attack and their central defender promptly launched a pass over First Wave's two center backs. The long ball was latched onto and clinically dispatched. The scoreline at halftime stood at 1-0.
First Wave, however, is clearly a second half side. Within the opening ten minutes Matt Lemire had scored a world class goal from a superb Thomas Halpenny pass to equalize 1-1. Minutes later, Carico turned a well placed First Wave corner kick into their own goal for 2-1 First Wave. Charlie Fuentes converted a First Wave counter for 3-1. Carico scored for 3-2 and things got a little dodgy for First Wave before Markens Benoit finally put an exclamation point on a strong First Wave performance for the final 4-2 scoreline. It was a timely victory and puts First Wave within three points of first place.

Short Handed First Wave Lose 3-2
Framingham, MA--A busy weekend for First Wave's playing squad left only eleven players available for this afternoon's match against Cambridge Arsenal. A last minute ditching, by a player who has subsequently been released, forced First Wave to play the entire 90 minutes with ten. It was a gritty performance against a Cambridge side desperate for points. Matt Lemire fired First Wave into an early lead, only to have Cambridge Arsenal respond with two excellent goals to jump in front 2-1. Minutes before halftime Eric Driscoll scored an outstanding goal to level the score at 2-2 going into halftime.
The second half was similar to the first, with both teams creating opportunities. It was an open game, that was tarnished by a diabolical referee decision. His decision to award Cambridge a penalty was cruel on a variety of levels, and took the gloss off an otherwise enjoyable game. Each member of the First Wave side played well throughout. It usually is difficult to take something positive from a loss, but watching the players work hard and stick together for the entire match was impressive. It can only bode well for an ever improving First Wave side.
First Wave will enjoy having Memorial Day Weekend off as they regroup for their final three league games of the spring season in early June.
Team: 4-4-1: GK Dan, Justin, Sean, Charlie, Matt L, Miles, Thomas, Matt, Eric, Drew

Another Tsunami of Goals Hits Lancaster

Lancaster, MA--Early morning alarms ensured First Wave was up and ready to go this morning for their 8:00 am kickoff at Progin Park in Lancaster. This week's opponent was Kendall B. First Wave followed a similar script to last week. An early goal via Matt L was nullified by another defensive miscue for 1-1. Late in the first half Ron and Nick F combined for First Wave's second goal, with Nick scoring, for 2-1 First Wave going into halftime.
Another strong second half showing propelled First Wave to an eventual 5-1 final. Goals from Markens, Lou, and a second for Matt L closed out the scoring. It was a better overall performance than last week. Make no mistakes, there is room for improvement. However, the continuity provided by players availability and overall balance within the squad gives First Wave a solid platform to build on as the season continues.
Next Saturday finds First Wave away against Cambridge Arsenal in a 3:00 pm kickoff in Framingham.
Team: (4-4-2): GK Peter, Sean, Mike, Gregg, Stephen B, Brendon, Thomas, Miles, Charlie, Matt L, Nick F

Six Pack for the Road, as First Wave Advance in Cup
Lancaster, MA--First Wave continued their free scoring ways in a 6-2 victory against Analog this morning in Lancaster. The First Round of the BSSL Cup found Analog, undefeated and top of the table in Division 2, leading First Wave 2-1. First Wave jumped out to an early 1-0 lead care of Matt L, and then proceeded to take their foot off the pedal. Analog found their footing and punished two defensive lapses to secure their 2-1 halftime advantage.
In what is becoming a trademark of this First Wave side--they dominated the second half. A subtle switch to 4-4-2 with the outside midfielders pinching in provided the balance lacking in the first half. Outside backs Steve P and Charlie enjoyed strong second half showings while providing width in attack. Golden Boot leading Nick F, completed a second half hat trick, bringing his season total to seven goals in all competitions. Nick M and Ron M rounded out the second half scoring, each scoring brave headers from excellent crosses.
Next Saturday sees First Wave return to league play against Kendall B in an 8:00 am kickoff at Progin Park in Lancaster.

Wayland Police called to Shootout at High School
Wayland, MA--A wide open match between First Wave and MPS led to a 4-4 shootout at Wayland High School yesterday afternoon. Visiting First Wave opened up in a 3-5-2 formation that MPS struggled to sort out. Sacrificing possession and territory, First Wave were dangerous on the break. Miles scored a superb goal for 1-0, followed by Nick's fourth goal of the season for 2-0. First Wave then handed MPS two chances by carelessly losing possession at the top of the defensive third. Top teams punish those type of mistakes, which MPS did, for 2-2. First Wave held their nerve, with Eric creating space for himself in the box and slotting for Mike to finish for 3-2. Unbelievably, or very believably, depends on your point of view, First Wave managed to shoot themselves in the foot one more time when a poor decision with players committed forward led to a MPS counter for 3-3 at halftime.
First Wave converted to a more traditional 4-4-2 in the second half. They had three points to play for when Steve blasted a free kick in for 4-3, but another poor giveaway in the center of the park led to a MPS corner kick. First Wave switched off for just a millisecond and it was 4-4. First Wave's point, though justified, was only secured at the death thanks to a world class double save by Peter Kersker in goal and some brave defending.
Overall, it was an enjoyable game, with both teams committed to attack.

First Wave lose 3-2 to Kendall A
South Boston, MA--First Wave fell victim to their first poor performance of the season yesterday at Moakley Field in South Boston. Several players went out of their way to help make sure First Wave could even field a starting XI, as numbers were especially tight this week. Unfortunately, those good intentions did not translate into a strong team showing.
The final scoreline is deceptive. Kendall dominated the first half, going into halftime with a 3-0 lead. First Wave fought back to 3-2 and had a player in 1 v 1 with goalkeeper in the closing minutes, but still dropped all three points. They will look to bounce back next week against the league's strongest side MPS.
Team: GK Dan, Sean H, Gregg, Steve D, Steve B, Charlie, Sean, Matt, Mike, Steve P, Eric
Subs: Thomas, Nik

First Wave draw 3-3 with Middlesex
Dorchester, MA--A cool drizzle greeted First Wave this morning as they tried to build on their season opening performance last weekend. The friendly confines of Ceylon Park provided the venue for the debut of First Wave's new kit. Looking sharp and feeling confident, it wasn't long before Middlesex provided a reality check. Twenty minutes in, Avery sliced down a Middlesex forward in the penalty box. The ensuing penalty was confidently dispatched. Ten minutes later First Wave's goalkeeper spilled a cross which lead to a goal. It was 2-0--a scoreline that lasted until halftime.
The second half saw First Wave fight back in style. In the opening minutes Nick F converted for 2-1. Shortly after, Thomas scored his first goal of the season, making it 2-2. An Eric D goal completed the comeback, as his world class finish catapulted First Wave into the lead at 3-2. Unfortunately, a bit of inexperience crept into a young First Wave side. Instead of settling in and consolidating for a 3-2 final, First Wave needlessly gave a ball away. The resulting turnover provided Middlesex with an opportunity to force an equalizer, which they did, for the eventual 3-3 final.
It was an exciting game all around and an excellent fight back from a First Wave side who will only improve each week.
Team:(3-5-2) GK Peter, Charlie, Sean H, Avery, Lou, Sean, Eric, Thomas, Brendon, Matt, Nick F

First Wave Opens up 2010 Campaign in Style
Marlborough, MA--First Wave made their BSSL debut this past Sunday night under the lights at ForeKicks in Marlborough. A busy off season away from the field provided a positive impetus on the field, as First Wave secured a comprehensive 4-0 victory against Boyne Gunners.
First half goals from Nick F and Miles proved more than enough, as a settled First Wave side looked in control throughout. The second half saw Eric score a superbly taken side footed goal while Nick F finished off his brace with a second goal in the closing minutes. Both Dan and Peter looked solid in goal, a good sign for a side that struggled in that department last campaign.
First Wave looks for their second victory in two games against Middlesex next Saturday. Details to follow.

First Wave buys out Bukowski Tavern FC
Westborough, MA--In a move that could have far reaching implications for the BSSL, First Wave Sports has bought out Bukowski Tavern. Terms and conditions have not been formally released, however the deal sees First Wave become the title sponsor for the 2010 season.
